Presentation: Upper School Spanish
On Thursday, January 19, 2012 guest presenter Kristen Masi spoke to the 8th grade Spanish class about her experiences living and working in Mexico and Guatemala. After studying Spanish in college and studying abroad in Costa Rica she spent ten months in Mexico working and studying at various language schools. She was then offered a job with Habitat for Humanity Guatemala where she directed volunteers from various parts of the world and built houses for low income families. Masi spoke to 8th grade about the importance of knowing another language and how her Spanish knowledge allowed her to find a job. She also emphasized the cultural diversity of Guatemala and showed pictures of the beautiful mountains, volcanos, and country side. Students asked questions ranging from the terrain, how many years she studied Spanish, and even about hiking volcanos. Overall, it was great to explore career options and the importance of knowing another language in this job market.
