Peer Buddies

As part of Powhatan’s commitment to promoting and nurturing a family atmosphere, we provide many opportunities for older students to mentor, play, and work with younger students, both inside and outside the classroom. At the beginning of each school year, older students are paired with one or occasionally two younger students, who will be their special buddy for the year. After secret letter exchanges and plenty of guessing, the buddies meet each other during the first of a series of monthly lunches and then head off for games or other activities. The younger students especially enjoy this program and are always on the lookout for their buddies on campus for a chance to exchange a greeting, toss of a ball, or give a high five.
